The Gryphon, the Little Girl, and Sometimes Lilia

I awoke in the morning. It was still dark outside, but it will brighten up in half an hour.

Rolled into a ball in the corner of the living room were the peacefully sleeping girl and gryphon. There were no signs of them waking up.

The market should be getting lively soon. I guess I should go get food while they're still sleeping.

The gryphon's portion is quite substantial. The guildmaster said that the costs during these next two weeks will be paid for, so no worries there.

The day truly began as I arrived at the market.

First is the butcher's shop.

「Welcome! Get your fresh meat here～」 (Butcher)

「Do you have lots of large, inexpensive blocks of meat?」 (Izayoi)

「If that's what you're after, then we've got some wild boar. There's been less of it recently, but it's still plenty cheap. Two silver coins for one kilo.」 (Butcher)

「I'll take all the wild boar you have then.」 (Izayoi)

「Thanks for your purchase. But will you be alright? There's 20 kilograms here, you know? Can you carry it all home?」 (Butcher)

I bought 20 kilograms of meat at the butcher's shop. I'm not sure how many days it'll last. Talking a walk around the market afterwards, I purchased fruit, vegetables, fish, and various other foodstuffs.

Having bought cooking utensils and various daily necessities, I threw them into warehouse Astrea.

Finished with my business, I returned to the little girl sitting on the floor and the gryphon waiting at the house.

「We'll eat soon since you're awake. I've got a lot of things to do today.」 (Izayoi)

Day 1, taking care of the little girl and the gryphon, morning.

「*Kuke!*」 (Gryphon)

The gryphon raised a cry in satisfaction as it swallowed the pieces of meat whole. It would appear that one meal would be about three kilograms of meat. According to the little girl, that much meat was enough for one meal during the day...

Three kilograms of wild boar meat is six silver coins. That's 6000 yen. One day is 18000 yen. The daily food expense for the gryphon alone is not to be underestimated.

The little girl seemed to be in low spirits with ears drooping, while she nibbled on food like a small animal.

A name, even if you say that so suddenly... While wracking my brain for a word, the front door opened.

「Good morning.」 (Lilia)

「Alright, I've decided. Your name will be Lilia killer. Rigolo for short.」 (Izayoi)

「Why? It's thanks to you that the gryphon will have a name, you know? Shouldn't you be honored?」 (Izayoi)

「How so!? Isn't that extremely bad!? That name's a premonition of my death is it not? Please don't make a monster carry that burden!」 (Lilia)

「*Kukeke? Kukeke! Kukeke!*」 (Rigolo)

「......Seems really likes it.」 (Little Girl)

「Eh!? He likes it? Please rethink it gryphon-san!」 (Lilia)

「Good for you, Lilia. You'll never die. You can live on inside of Rigolo.」 (Izayoi)

「There's no way that's good!」 (Lilia)

「Rigolo.」 (Izayoi)

「*Kuke!*」 (Rigolo)

「......Rigolo.」 (Little Girl)

「It's already been decided!? No way! I don't want this!」 (Lilia)

「You can't do anything about it anymore. Just accept it. I've already accepted being Ichayoi.」 (Izayoi)

「How can this be! I won't accept this, Ichayoi-san——*gufu*」 (Lilia)

「I don't remember giving you permission to call me that.」 (Izayoi)

「Forgive me, I won't say it again so please let go. My face! My face is going to become pale and wrinkled!」 (Lilia)

「By the way, do you have anything planned for today? Or do you plan to stay inside the whole day?」 (Lilia)

「There are various things to take care of. I plan to take them around town.」 (Izayoi)

「Going around town? The gryphon too? ...there was a rumor several days ago that the gryphon tamer came to this town, and master is not in town right now. Of course the townspeople know this. They're quite uneasy you know.」 (Lilia)

「As long as those guys are there, it's impossible to avoid them on that road. Are you saying that you, Rigolo and the little girl are going to stay cooped up in in this small house or inside the guild?」 (Izayoi)

「I never said anything like that though......」 (Lilia)

「Being stuck inside isn't healthy. And do you think they'll just protect you like they did before? I don't think so. There's a smelly A-rank monster and its tamer. They could have a use.」 (Izayoi)

「......I'm thinking hard about it. Those two...」 (Lilia)

「They could be quite useful. It's to be expected.」 (Izayoi)

「......You really are the worst.」 (Lilia)

The bell within the tower that stood at the center of town sounded.

It's about 9 o'clock.

「I'll be returning to the guild then, but if you plan on going out, let me know. I'll do what I can to keep the guild from going into an uproar.」 (Lilia)

Shall we get started then?

「Please be careful of that person. He's really awful. Let me know if he's mean to you, okay?」 (Lilia)

Scared of Rigolo, Lilia spoke to the little girl who was withdrawn a short distance away. The little girl didn't react to Lilia and gazed back.

「*Kuke!*」 (Rigolo)

「Eek, gryphon-san. I, I am a gentle girl who will protect your family, okay.」 (Lilia)

Leaving those words with the gryphon, Lilia ran away.

「Hey, come here for a second.」 (Izayoi)

Sitting at the edge of the room were the little girl and Rigolo. Responding to my call, she slowly stood up and walked up to me.

With an expressionless upward glance, her ears hung down uneasily, and as I sighed, she twitched.

Bending at the knees, I met the little girl's gaze.

「——You, you smell like a beast.」 (Izayoi)

After watching me expressionlessly for a while, she sniffed around my shoulders. However, the little girl not understanding me, tilted her head.

「Alright, raise your arms. See, like this.」 (Izayoi)

As her ears shook back and forth to express her nervousness, she raised her arms and copied my gesture.

「Stay just like that.」 (Izayoi)

I stretched my hands towards her feet. The little girl wanted to step back, but followed my words, shutting her eyes firmly to endure.

I grabbed the hem of her one-piece that was just barely long enough.

I pulled it up in one go.

Pure white thighs. Stomach.

The little girl was rendered completely nude. I hadn't seen it before, but a fluffy tail grew out from the area slightly above her derriere.

Dropping the clothes on the floor, I spoke to the girl who was trembling and frightened.

「Follow me.」 (Izayoi)

Leading the naked girl, I went further into the living room.

The guildmaster prepared a place for us to live.

Located at the opposite side of the guild building, it was a rather secure home with a garden.

「The gryphon, would it be fine for it to not be in the house?」 (Izayoi)

「......Family.」 (Little Girl)

「If it’s family, then it can’t be helped.」 (Izayoi)

「A-as I thought, you’re going to be with the gryphon for a long time, aren’t you?」 (Lilia)

Even now Lilia is afraid of the gryphon.

「Don’t tell me you’re also thinking of staying with me for a while?」 (Izayoi)

「I’ll be monitoring you as much as possible since you are an untrustworthy person.」 (Lilia)

Although it’s really bothersome, I’ll have to endure it, huh.

「If something gets in my way, I’ll remove it.」 (Izayoi)

At that moment, the gryphon entered the spacious entryway that was seemingly created for it.

The girl’s animal ears had drooped down, and she was restlessly looking around the room.

Her face was expressionless and both of her animal ears slightly moved in an alternative fashion, I wonder how she’s thinking of answering.

「......Eats anything.」 (Little Girl)

「*Kueh!*」 (Gryphon)

‘If it’s food it’ll eat anything!’ I thought to myself as the gryphon let out a cry.

Although I’ve never actually seen a gryphon before, it unexpectedly had a high level of intelligence.

「Please stop ignoring me Izayoi-san! ......Ichayoi-san?」 (Lilia)

「Eats anything, huh......」 (Izayoi)

I shifted my attention to Lilia. Her face lit up. She had a cheerful expression that had a “Paaa” noise to it.

「Does it also eat people?」 (Izayoi)

I turned back my gaze, and asked another question of the girl.

Her animal ears continued alternatively moving without changing, and closed her eyes with an awkward expression.

「......Eat people?」 (Little Girl)

「*Kueh?*」 (Gryphon)

The gryphon had thought about for a few seconds.　

「*Kukeke!*」 (Gryphon)

「......Relatively tasty, it said.」 (Little Girl)

「I see, tasty, huh. That’s good eh, go ahead Lilia.」 (Izayoi)

「It’s not good! I’m not going. I’m still a young 16 year old you know?」 (Lilia)

「Don’t worry. I’m also about 16 years old.」 (Izayoi)

「Please don’t think of grouping me together with someone like you!」 (Lilia)

「*Guruu...*」 (Gryphon)

「......Hungry, he says.」 (Little Girl)

「I see. Alright then, the live feed is――」 (Izayoi)

「Ah, I remember! Since I have errands to do at the guild, I’ll be returning for a bit!」 (Lilia)

With a pale face and sweat on her forehead, Lilia dashed away.

She had left the wide entryway, but contrary to expectations turned around and took a peek.

「While I’m not here please don’t do anything strange! Please don’t misbehave!」

And with that, Lilia had left.

「*Guruu?*」 (Gryphon)

The noisy girl had left, and the room had become calm.

The gryphon tilted its head, and the young expressionless girl motionlessly stared at me.

I suddenly felt exhausted. I’ll think about a few things and what to do from now on tomorrow......

「For the time being, shall have dinner......?」 (Izayoi)

「*Kukekeke!*」 (Gryphon)

Bread, meat, fish, vegetables, and fruit. It really does eat everything, I guess.

Although it originally did not have much stored food, the food stored in Astrea was almost gone. Judging by the gryphon’s physique, it eating this much was obvious.

「I’m going to sleep. Leaving the tableware like that is fine. If anything happens, tell me.」 (Izayoi)

I bought food from a store and served it on a plate, and the girl took her time slowly bringing the food to her mouth till the end.

Separated by the living room, the both of us left to our individual rooms.

Lying down on the bed, I let out a sigh.

Two weeks, is it? There seems to be quite a bit of trouble to deal with.

「Izayoi! Why are you nonchalantly adding more heroines?!」 (Astrea)

「Shut up. I’m resting here. Don’t bring your thoughts over here Astrea.」 (Izayoi)

「The one that Izayoi exploits, who nursed a dying fairy-chan on the brink of death, the Super White Spirit Astrea, is treated with this kind of attitude? You should normally be saying something like, ”Thanks Astrea. I love you.”」 (Astrea)

Surprised, I quickly got up. There was a girl who had fallen on her backside.

「Sorry. I didn’t mean to use magic.」 (Izayoi)

「It is fine, it is fine, Hero-sama.」 (Allele)

「......Quit it with the hero thing. I’m no longer a hero.」 (Izayoi)

「No, such a thing, such a thing is not the case. The Hero-sama is a hero.」 (Allele)

「Even if that’s the case, call me Izayoi. Since Astrea refers to me like that, do the same. ......Water Fairy, I understand the situation regarding the exhaustion of magical energy. Tell me about the rest of the fairies.」 (Izayoi)

「That’s unfair Izayoi! You’re cold to Astrea-chan, but kind to Allele-chan? After everything, Astrea-chan is just a girl of the past. Your feelings have turned towards a new girl, there’s nothing I can do right? A girl of the past. A girl from long ago right?」 (Astrea)

「How unreasonable、you should realize you dug your own grave with how you act.」 (Izayoi)

「......The other fairies, the other fairies, Ah, I remember! We are in big trouble! Fiere-chan was coming to save me, but since she immediately lost her way, she is probably crying from loneliness right now.」 (Allele)

This world is divided into two continents. In each continent there are two fairies each, and in the one I’m on right now are the Water and Earth fairies. In the continent with many beastmen and elves are the Fire and Wind fairies.

The other continent has not had much of a decrease in magical power, so there isn’t much of a worry for the fairies on that continent、but the problem is the Wind Fairy.

If she had gotten lost on the other continent it would have been fine, if she was lost on this continent, she might use up all of her strength due to a lack of magic. The Earth Fairy would have to quickly retrieve her.

The magic depletion had started from the outer edges of the continent. The Water Fairy who was near the edge would be weakened, while the Earth Fairy, who was inland, would be fine.

There’s no expectation for finding the Wind Fairy, and there’s no urgency for dealing with the Earth Fairy I think.

Adding to that there’s no intention to do nothing for two weeks either.

There shouldn’t be much of a risk, so I’ll see if I can bring the girl and the gryphon along to search for the Wind Fairy.
